Multilingual Surround Sound Movies

Overview

1. What Is a Multilingual Surround Sound Movie?
A multilingual surround sound movie is a movie that contains 5.1-channel surround sound audio tracks as well as audio tracks for different languages ("voice tracks").
You can think of this type of movie as a multilingual movie with 5.1-channel surround sound.

You can use a multilingual surround sound movie to play BGM in 5.1-channel surround sound along with an audio track for a specified language.
However, be aware that the type of material file used for the voice tracks depends on the method used to change voice tracks.

2. Changing Voice Tracks
Use the sub-audio function to change voice tracks in a multilingual surround sound movie.

  • Sub-audio Playback
The sub-audio track (voice track) is mixed in simultaneously with the main audio track.
You can use either monaural or stereo data for the voice track material files.

  • Extra audio playback
There are three types of tracks: the main track, the sub track, and an "extra audio track" as the third track.
These three tracks can be mixed and played at the same time.
For example, it can be used for registering, switching and playing back an SFX track separately from music and voice tracks.

    [Remarks]
Currently, Sofdec2 Viewer does not support simultaneous playback and confirmation of these three tracks (including extra audio tracks).
Please check the operation of the runtime library or test on an actual device.

Required Files

The following files are required to create a multilingual surround sound movie.
For details about Materials for 5.1-channel surround sound, refer to Audio Material Files .

  • Video material files
  • Six channels of WAV files for 5.1-channel surround sound
  • Audio files for each supported language

If you want to use the "Center channel replacement" method, the language audio files must meet the following conditions:

  • The data must be monaural
  • The surround sound center channel must be mixed in advance

Procedure for Creating Multilingual Surround Sound Movie Data

  1. Run the Sofdec2 Encoding Wizard.

  2. Set the platform and video material file on each page.

  3. Register the 5.1-channel surround sound data to tracks on the [Specify Input Audio Materials] page.

  4. Use this same procedure to register the language audio files to tracks.
  5. After you set the output destination and other encoding parameters, perform the encoding to create the multilingual surround sound movie data.
